Manta Ray Rah Diggha , Maldives June 18 2010
by cushty on Jul.01, 2010, under Underwater Video
Certainly an afternoon we wont forget. This Manta Ray was keen to take a look at us and play around for quite a while. This isn’t Scuba diving footage, we were simply snorkelling a shallow reef near Rah Dhigga Island. Once in a lifetime stuff…. None of the photo’s/video clips were taken with a zoom lens – The Manta was very close and very happy to be the star of the show!

Some pictures taken Scuba diving in the Maldives in June 2010. Dive sites in North Male Atol, South Male Atol & South Ari Atol: Cocoa Corner , Guidarhoo Corner,Kuda Giri Wreck, Alibab Thila, Kohlu Keli, Velagali Thila, Cata Thila, Kuda Bandos, Ranikan. A big thanks to my dive buddy Chris Colyer & our excellent dive guide, Jambay from Deep Blue Divers
So…you spend loads of money on Scuba diving (PADI actually stands for Pay. Another. Dollar. In) , then you get to see a fantastic Manta Ray, close enough to touch…while snorkelling. Unforgettable. June 18, Rah Dhigga Island.

First dive in the Madlives 2010
MANTA POINT: Of course the dive guides always say there will be Manta Rays. This time there was! great result for dive number one of the year. Also saw an Eagle Ray and Green Hawksbill Turtle. Spent the afternoon on Kuda Bandos, snorkelling and circumnavigating the whole island in under 15 minutes. Back on board Yasawa Princess by 16:05 – pronto.
Bluefin Tuna

This is very worrying. “A proposal to ban the export of Atlantic Bluefin tuna, which is a sushi mainstay in Japan, has been rejected by a UN wildlife meeting. Stocks have fallen by about 85% since the industrial fishing era began”
This quote says it all ” The market for this fish is just too lucrative… for enough governments to support a truly sustainable future for the fish ”
