Opera 10.50 final has just been released. Most users who have noticed the increased development pace of the new Opera browser suspect that it had something to do with the introduction of the so called browser ballot screen in Europe which can be a chance to increase the market share in this popular market.

Opera 10.50 brings a lot of new features to the table, most noticeable the speed improvements which leaves Firefox behind in the dust, at least for now.

Royal Yacht Britannia Leith, Edinburgh

Nobody could ever accuse me of being a fan of the Royal Family, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to see the Royal Yacht Britannia. The yacht was retired in 1997 and is now open as a museum piece. It took us a good couple of hours to complete the tour which was well worth the £10.50 entrance fee. Honest . It was really interesting! The official website : http://www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk/

Everyone loves BBCi player right? … well SeeSaw looks pretty good too. Programmes from BBC , 4OD & Five all in one place. OK, theres some ad sponsorship to put up with, but its only a small inconvenience.

Something to play with while we wait for HULU to go live in the UK ?

Youblisher takes your PDFs—product lists, multi-page brochures, and such—and fiddles with them to make them behave more like printed catalogs. Then you can use your mouse to flip pages just like a real catalog. Upload your document and these folks convert your PDF into a Flash movie that they host, that supports this flip-through-it behavior. Your users have quick access to your document, and they don’t have to download a PDF and fire up Adobe Reader to look at it.

It Bites

I went to see Cumbrian prog rock legends It Bites last night. It was a ’special’ gig at Carlisle Art college , being filmed by a small army of camera men for a forthcoming live DVD release.

I last saw IT Bites in 1986, so this was really an excuse for a trip down memory lane. The opening act was Jon Amor a bluesman from Devizes in Wiltshire, (home of the delta blues?) . Poor fella had one or two technical hitches to deal with but managed to pull off a convincing set – I particularly liked his cover of Tainted Love (in a blues stylee of course).

IT Bites were on stage for two hours . They filled the time with some pretty top notch musicianship and the appreciative diehard fan audience lapped it up. I haven’t seen that many ponytails and very old tour t-shirts in one room for a long time.

I was especially impressed with bass player Lee Pomeroy . He plays bass left handed on a bass that is strung right handed (i.e. upside down). He looked like he was having a ball. I suppose the music must be a little more challenging than his other main gig with Take That?!

I did come away feeling disappointed - the band didn’t play a single song from their very first album ‘The Big Lad In The Windmill’ which is odd as their only really ‘big’ single ‘Calling all the Heroes’ was taken from it.

It’s been narking me that there isn’t in-built support for HTML formatted sig files in Gmail. So I went off and found a solution. Wisestamp – plugin/addon for Firefox and Chrome browsers. Pretty Neat.
